Speaking during the 556th inaugural lecture titled “Aquaculture Engineering: Reconciling the Balance in The Triad Of Fish, Plants And Man,” Akinwole addressed the audience, affirming ASUU’s commitment to advocating for improvements in the education sector.

Akinwole stressed that ASUU will persist in its efforts to challenge and influence those in power, calling on both federal and state governments to address the ongoing conflicts involving the Nigerian government, the workforce, and students.

He emphasized the need for the government to resolve these issues by addressing the concerns of all parties involved and prioritizing the advancement of Nigeria’s education sector.

Additionally, Akinwole pointed out that governmental interference in educational affairs and appointments further exacerbates the sector’s challenges. He outlined several critical issues:

– Insufficient funding leading to inadequate infrastructure, outdated facilities, and curricula.
– Allegations of corruption and mismanagement of education funds.
– Rising tuition fees making education increasingly unaffordable.
– Poor living conditions in hostels and academic buildings, inadequate healthcare, and insufficient support services for students.
– Disputes over workers’ rights, salaries, and benefits, causing strikes among staff.
– Deterioration of university infrastructure impacting teaching and learning.
