Ada Anioma was released by her abductors after spending 10 days in the kidnappers Dan, ending fears of her safety amid speculation that the worse might have happened to her.

Recall that Advocate.ng reported on Thursday that those behind the kidnapping of the former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education and former House of Representatives member, Evangelist Joan Mrakpor, had reportedly demanded a ransom of N1 billion for her release.

Advocate.ng also reported that the former House of Assembly and House of Representatives member was kidnapped on July 30, 2024, by armed men at her church, ‘King Jesus and I,’ off DBS Road in Asaba, around 4 p.m. The attack led to the deaths of two police orderlies and a POS operator, who was allegedly struck by a stray bullet.

Reacting to our inquiry, Delta State Command Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the release of Ada Anioma in a WhatsApp message to Advocate.ng. However, he did not disclose details on how she was released.

According to SP Edafe, “We have just officially confirmed that Rt. Hon. Joan Onyemaechi (Ada-Anioma) has been released by her abductors. Details coming. This is confirmed, please.”

Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered from a family source, who spoke to us anonymously, that Evangelist Joan Onyemaechi was released on Thursday evening. The information was kept from the public to give her time to rest and receive medical attention.

According to the source, “Ada Anioma was released on Thursday through the efforts of the state government, the family, and security agencies. She was admitted to a private hospital in Asaba for proper medical evaluation and attention because of the trauma she has experienced.”

“The family and authorities decided to keep it out of the public domain to give her time to rest.”

When asked whether a ransom was paid to secure her release, the source said, “I am not in a position to confirm whether a ransom was paid or not.
