The conflict reportedly arose from a disagreement on the appropriate date to celebrate the festival. While some Chiefs set the festival for August 9 and 10, Oba Ogunlade scheduled it for a different day, leading to a standoff.

Tensions escalated on Friday when the Chiefs, defying the monarch’s decision, led the community in beginning the celebrations. In response, Oba Ogunlade reportedly called in police officers to the community to restore order. However, the situation quickly deteriorated as the police fired tear gas and shot sporadically when the gathering became unruly.
