He stressed that the GDP rebasing should ideally occur every five years, but it has been a decade since the last update. He acknowledged that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is actively working on new calculations, which will provide a more accurate economic assessment once completed. He dismissed the figures presented by Dele Momodu, attributing them to a lack of recent data and an outdated economic framework.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, ‘I’m a student of logic and of course I will not want to engage in what is called fallacy of astute generalization. I would rather want us to look at the specifics, you can’t just say all indices are doubled. I’m not oblivious of commentators that just throw up figures online. I know a defeated Presidential Candidate came here to throw up false figures on the GDP, those figures are not based on statistics. the GDP was rebased was in 2014 and we are in 2024. And of course, the re-basing of the GDP should be done on the basis of 5 years period. And now we are in 10 years and I’m aware that NBS is currently working on analysing and ra-basing our GDP. And it is when the figures are out that you can now be talking about the correct figure.
