Mr. Obi said he decided to take journalists “to see what is happening”. He added: “Sometimes the government is different from what the government is doing. So, as a private citizen I decided to come and see things myself, to communicate to Anambrarians the true picture of things. And I have seen the true picture and I am overwhelmed. Soludo is fantastic and wonderful. So, I am concurring now. The only thing I am asking Anambrarians for is to give him four more years.
“They should not disrupt this process of radical transformation. So, four more years So that he completes programmes on the ground”.
Given it to him, Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has etched his name in history as one who constructed critical road infrastructure, some of them beginning from scratch as virgin roads. Some of such roads were those Comrade Obi took the journalists to see things for themselves. Such roads were the 26.4-kilometre Amansea-Ezinator-Okpeze-Awa- Ufuma Road, the 26-kilometre Amansea-Ebenebe Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba Ofemili Road. The two roads are outstanding and critical given that they lead mainly to rural food baskets of the state with topographical challenges. You can only imagine the joy the roads brought to the communities living along the long stretch.
At Awba Ofemili which is situated at the very end of the Amansea-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba Ofemili Road, the joy of the people of Awba Ofemili knew no bounds. Former secretary of the town union, Hon.Chinedu Araeki, said it was the first time in 47 years the community was seeing an asphalt road. He said the community thanks God for the benevolent Governor He has given to them.
According to him, since the completion of the road, development has come in; investors have been trooping in and the price of land has skyrocketed in the area.
Another citizen from there, Mr. Victor Maduagwu, a lawyer, said that the road is a very important link to neighbouring Ayamelum Local Council which he described as the “linking point of the entire Anambra State. This is because if you drive from Amansea to Omor junction, you find yourself at 3-3, Onitsha”. He prayed that Awba Ofemili be linked to Omor which is separated by a river. When that is done, the whole place will be opened to agriculture.
