The significant presence of high-ranking PDP members underscored the importance of the election to the party’s leadership.

The Edo state gubernatorial election will hold on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Leading the charge were former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governors Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), alongside Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, the host of the event.

Their collective presence highlighted the critical nature of the election for the PDP, emphasizing the need to secure victory in Edo State.

Governor Diri expressed confidence in Dr. Ighodalo, describing him as a strong candidate who stands above his competitors and is expected to emerge victorious.

He stressed the importance of a peaceful election, urging that the people of Edo be allowed to vote freely for the candidate of their choice. “Election is not war. Peace is priceless,” Diri remarked.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in a social media post, reinforced this sentiment, stating, “Edo confirmed today that Asue Ighodalo, the flagbearer of our great party, the PDP, in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, is the man to consolidate on the good works of Gov. Godwin Obaseki.”

Additionally, the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, along with other members of the National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees, attended the rally, further highlighting the election’s significance.

The People’s Democratic Party”s leaders also paid a visit to the Esama of Benin, Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, in celebration of his 90th birthday.
