Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, made the call on Saturday morning when he was featured on the current State of the Nation program in the Africa Independent Television, AIT.
The farmer-turned-politician, who applauded the war against insecurity, identified food scarcity as a major problem confronting the nation and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to set aside market forces and other protocols by making food available to the people, by all means including importation.
“There is no time for market forces. This is a crisis. Mr. President, let us bring in the food so that people can have what to eat. This is not a time to talk about market forces. Let us import the food to guide us against hunger and anger. The market forces can come later.”
While disclosing that the federal government has concluded plans to distribute fertilisers and other palliatives across the country, he appealed to the governors and his colleagues in the national assembly to ensure the items get to the grassroots.
