The appeal follows a spike in fuel costs to N1400 per litre, worsening financial difficulties for workers.
In a press release, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, highlighted the dire economic situation in the Southeast.
“The financial strain on our civil servants has reached unprecedented levels. Many have not received their salaries for July and August, compounding the agony of soaring transportation and commodity prices.”
Ohanaeze’s appeal mirrors similar measures in Lagos State, where Governor Sanwo-Olu introduced a Work-From-Home policy in response to high fuel prices.
The group also commended Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwaifuru for disbursing N1.3 billion to support youths during the national protests against hunger. They called on other Southeast governors to provide similar relief.
Addressing President Bola Tinubu, Ohanaeze demanded a reversal of the fuel price hike, suggesting a return to ₦250 per litre, emphasising that “the presence of the Dangote refinery makes this adjustment feasible.”
Additionally, the group urged President Tinubu to dismantle any “cabal” within the petroleum sector hindering progress and deepening the nation’s economic crisis.
