Jay, 19, was last seen leaving an Airbnb called Casa Abuela Tina, near the village of Masca in the park on June 17. In a phone call at around 8.30am he told pal Lucy Law he was lost and said he had just one per cent phone battery left.
Rural Parc de Teno’s steep ravines and harsh mountainous terrain make it a haven for hikers and adventurers. But its rugged landscape and dense shrubbery are also what made the search for Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, so difficult.
The entrance fee, which came in on Friday, has been introduced as part of new conservation measures, Tenerife president Rosa Davila, said. Visitor numbers will also be capped at just 275 per day.
While tourists will be charged, entry for Tenerife residents will be free.
Writing on X, Ms Davila said: “Tenerife implements the first EcoTasa in the Barranco de Masca starting today, Friday (July 12). This ecological fee will be allocated 100% for conservation work, also allowing us to limit access to 275 people per day.

“Residents in Tenerife will NOT have to pay to access the Masca Ravine. A measure that goes hand in hand with the reopening of the pier and the improvement of the path to guarantee a safe experience for all visitors.”
Emergency services spent 13 days searching the area before calling the operation off on June 30 – although police have since confirmed a number of lines of inquiry remain open.
Jay’s family and friends, including dad, Warren Slater, are still desperately scouring the park, spending their days hiking along its paths and trails. Last week Mr Slater told the Mirror: “We are still out looking. What more can we possibly do?
“I’ve said before, I need an army to help me. People don’t understand the vastness of it. I’d love to be able to fly a drone and sit here all day scouring the whole area.”…READ FULL ARTICLE
