An X user,@zaMusbeyNe_, with 87,000 followers, posted the claim on August 25, 2024 with a caption that reads: “NYSC allowee don drop ooooo!!!! N77,000 🫡. May God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.
The claim had attracted 543,40 views, 338 reposts, 114 quotes, 2,742 likes and 114 bookmarks as of press time.
NYSC Paid N77,000 To Serving Corps Members
The claim is misleading as corps members still get N33,000 as their monthly stipend.
On July 29, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed N70,000 minimum wage into law by ending months of deliberations between government authorities, labour unions, and the private sector in the country.
Serving corps members who were receiving N33,000 monthly ought to be paid at least N70,000 from August.
But a corps member serving in Taraba State confirmed that N33,000 was credited into his First Bank account for August.
“I have received my allawee and it was N33,000. It was earlier today that I received it” he said, adding that his colleagues in Taraba also received similar amounts, not N77,000 as claimed.

Another corps member serving in Kwara State confirmed N33,000 was paid into his count on Tuesday by the NYSC, contrary to a rumor going viral.
“I was paid yesterday and it was N33,000 that I received in my account issued by the NYSC”, he said.

A search on the scheme’s Facebook page showed that NYSC Director General, General YD Ahmed, had assured corps members that as soon as civil servants start receiving the new minimum wage that was approved, their monthly allowance would also increase.
Mrs Carol Lembu, the NYSC’s acting spokesperson, for verification, she refuted the claim.
“No, it is not true”, Lembu said. “ NYSC allowance is quite close to minimum wage. So, if there is increment that is when it will take effect. Is not in isolation”.
She added that the scheme still maintains N33,000 until the Federal Government increases the salary of civil servants.
The claim that corps members received N77,000 for the month of August is false; findings show that the corps members still receive the old minimum wage of N33,000.
