Officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare picked up the suspect after the mother of the 7-year-old survivor reported the incident to the ministry.

Upon interrogation, the suspect, Nwaebonyi who revealed that he hails from Izzi in Ebonyi state, had earlier denied the allegation.

He, however, later confessed to committing the said crime but said it was only once.

According to the 30-year-old, he never forced the girl but only asked her to raise her clothes and lie down on the ground.

Narrating her ordeal to reporters, the 7-year-old said she, alongside her twin brother, usually goes over to the next compound where the suspect had stayed to play since the holiday started.

“It was when we went to that compound that he started defiling me.

“He did the thing for about 5 times, which were always on Mondays and Tuesdays,”she revealed.

The child’s mother, while speaking, said she got to know about the whole ugly incident one of the days she came back from work to bathe her kids and discovered that her daughter’s private region was swollen.

“When I quizzed her, she told me what has been going on and I quickly went to the next compound to complain to the guardians of the suspect after which I took my daughter to a pharmacy before coming to the ministry,”she narrated.

Our correspondent gathered that the 7-year-old survivor and her twin brother were born to her parents after ten years of childlessness.

As of the time of writing this report, the suspect has been handed over to the police where he will be interrogated and charged to court.
