The move to the APP came after Governor Fubara and his loyalists were sidelined in the struggle for control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP after they were denied forms to partake in the congresses that produced the new structure of the party in the state. The development meant that control of the PDP in Rivers State was vested on Mr Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT
The decision comes in the wake of Governor Fubara losing control of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State to former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The development meant that loyalists of Governor Fubara would not be favoured to be enrolled as candidates of the PDP in the local government election due on October 5, 2024.
