“I am deeply sorry for my failure to prioritize my baby’s needs,” Auta said in a statement. “I never intended for this to happen, and I am devastated by the loss of my child.”
Auta was found guilty of neglecting her baby, who died from a combination of dehydration and starvation.
The court heard that Auta had left her baby alone for extended periods while she worked, failing to provide adequate care and attention.
“This is a heartbreaking case, and I want to acknowledge the immense grief and sorrow that Ruth Auta and her family are experiencing,” said Judge Sarah Jones.
“However, as a nurse, Ruth had a responsibility to prioritize her baby’s needs, and her failure to do so has resulted in tragic consequences.”
