Ighodalo had compared their career beginnings, stating that while he began his professional life as a board chairman, Oshiomhole started his as a tailor. This remark sparked a response from the Senator, who addressed the claim during a live broadcast.
Oshiomhole firmly denied ever working as a tailor but did not take offense at being associated with the profession. On the contrary, he expressed pride in being described as a tailor, using the opportunity to underscore the essential role tailors play in society.
He stressed that tailors are not only well-known but are also integral members of their communities, trusted by people for important moments in their lives.
Oshiomhole elaborated on the significance of tailors, noting that many people depend on them for special occasions, such as sewing clothes for holidays like Salah and Christmas, further emphasizing their indispensable role in society.
In a televised statement on TVC, Oshiomhole remarked, “I had a good laugh when he (Asue Ighodalo) said I started my life as a tailor and he started as a board chairman. It is not true that he started as a board chairman, and I was never a tailor.”
Despite refuting Ighodalo’s claims, Oshiomhole did not shy away from the importance of the profession, stating, “But I’m very proud to be described as a tailor because in matters of politics, it is who the people know that they will vote for.”
“In every community, a tailor and a mechanic are the two people everybody just knows. If you want to sew clothes for Salah and for Christmas, you just go to the tailor. So it tells you about the relevance of tailors in our society.”
Oshiomhole’s response not only clarified his career beginnings but also served as a reminder of the significant role that certain professions, often overlooked, play in the fabric of society.
