Speaking at a high-level meeting on peace and security in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu highlighted that global challenges such as food insecurity and armed conflict require partnerships built on mutual respect, fairness, and inclusiveness.
The Nigerian President commended the African Union’s ongoing efforts to promote global peace, citing the AU’s “Silencing the Guns Initiative” as a key factor in restoring stability across the continent. He called for a reevaluation of global governance and economic development strategies, advocating for enhanced cooperative partnerships to address current challenges.
He emphasized the need to address the root causes of conflict, such as poverty and inequality, and outlined Nigeria’s holistic approach to peacebuilding, which combines military, diplomatic, and economic efforts.
In his closing remarks, Tinubu assured that Nigeria will continue to support efforts for a secure and prosperous West Africa, emphasizing Nigeria’s central role in the evolution of ECOWAS and its peacekeeping initiatives.
