Ugomuoh, a former gubernatorial aspirant of the party, made the call on Monday in Abuja during a chat with the media, preparatory to the all-important stakeholders reconciliatory meeting coming up on Wednesday, September 4 in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
Recall that the Labour Party has been enmeshed in leadership crisis since the expiration of Julius Abure’s tenure.
Charles Ugomuoh said the committee, in line with its primary duty, is committed to the resolution of conflicts within the party as well as ensuring the speedy restoration of peace and harmonious working relationships amongst party members and stakeholders.
He said, “the committee wishes to align itself with the recent position of Peter Gregory Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, who, alongside the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, advocated for a stakeholders’ meeting to holistically resolve all pending issues in the party.
“Before this time, this committee has been at the forefront of the restoration of peace in the party. It has sat and consulted with various aggrieved party members and stakeholders at various locations and fora in the past in a bid to restore peace in the party, including with Peter Gregory. Obi, the Presidential candidate of our great party, as well as the party’s NWC”.
He stressed that this becomes necessary at this time as Nigeria’s democracy cannot be sustained with one-party system.
“As a result, all should rise and stand firm to right all wrongs and move this great country forward. It has also become necessary now that the INEC has decided to distance itself from the Abure-led National Working Committee, and should the party continue this way, it means that all party activities remain a nullity. So the time is ripe for the party stakeholders to come together to phantom ways to succeed”, he said.
