The arrests were made on Friday by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, according to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. He shared the information via X.com on Saturday, stating, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”

This follows an earlier incident where 17 individuals were taken into custody on Thursday night in the same area for similar offenses, including open urination, defecation, and failure to use the pedestrian bridge.

The Lagos State government has reinforced its commitment to eradicating open defecation as part of a broader initiative to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for its residents.

Additionally, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has begun a cleanup operation on the Ojodu-Berger highway median, further demonstrating its efforts to combat the issue of open defecation.
