The situation escalated after Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, reiterated that Ekpa’s case is being handled strictly through Finland’s legal system. Valtonen’s comments followed a meeting between Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and his counterparts from Nordic countries, including Sweden, Iceland, Norway, and Denmark.

Ekpa, based in Finland, contends that Nigeria’s government is now considering closing its embassy in Helsinki after exhausting other options to secure his return. He further mentioned that Norway had previously shut down its embassy in Nigeria and relocated it to Ghana, implying that Finland could also benefit from such a decision.

These allegations come on the heels of Ekpa’s recent claim that he survived a fifth assassination attempt in Finland, adding more tension to the already strained relationship between Nigeria and Finland.
