While the PDP supported the call for former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race, the APC argued that it is premature to discuss the 2027 election.

The APC, however, expressed confidence that the party would defeat Jonathan if he decides to contest.

Northern leaders plot to remove Tinubu

Recent reports indicate that northern leaders have rejected Tinubu and are allegedly secretly working to persuade Jonathan to enter the 2027 presidential race.

Recall that Bauchi state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, endorsed Jonathan’s potential candidacy, vowing to drop his presidential ambition if the ex-president indicates interest.

Mohammed noted that Jonathan has the experience to revamp the economy and would do a good job if given a second mandate.

According to The Punch, the PDP’s deputy national publicity secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the party supports Mohammed’s position and believes Jonathan is the best candidate for a southern presidency in 2027.

Abdullahi praised Jonathan’s nationalist credentials and willingness to concede defeat in the 2015 election.

APC dismisses 2027 presidential election talks

Reacting, the APC said it is too early to discuss the 2027 election. APC’s national director of publicity, Bala Ibrahim, mocked the PDP for showing desperation and warned that Jonathan would lose if he runs against Tinubu.

Ibrahim said the APC’s victory in 2015 was due to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s followership and the party’s arrangement.

He expressed optimism that history would repeat itself if Jonathan runs against Tinubu in 2027.

Ibrahim said the APC would package its candidate and win the election when the time comes. He described the PDP’s moves as an attempt to stay relevant.

Tinubu spends N2bn monthly on 99 senators

Legit.ng previously reported that Tinubu’s administration is reportedly spending N2.079 billion monthly on the earnings of 99 non-principal senators in the National Assembly.

This followed Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila’s revelation that he received N21 million as his monthly earnings, contrary to the RMAFC’s claim.

However, the monthly earnings of the ten principal officers of the Senate have remained sacred, and none is ready to discuss them.
