AIG Durosimi made this appeal on Monday during his ceremonial pull-out from the Nigeria Police Force after 35 years of service in Lagos.
He said Policing in Nigeria is streneous and a tasking one; “what we have on ground on the aspect of health care is nothing to write home about.
“The Police in Nigeria needs technology to fight crime and criminality, personnel of the force who travel out of the country comes back home with lofty Laurels, interestingly most success recorded in peace keeping mission across the world are mostly from the Nigeria Police Force.
“Such feet is impossible and outright abysmal when it comes to working in our father’s land.The Police force requires technology which is the driven assets for the force.
“The technology will enhance performance of the force and also make it get its required results. It most be noted that investment in the security asset can never be a west, the government needs to work and make the force a proactive one and upgrade it to meet up with the international standard.
“Also, training and retraining of the policemen and women of the police is good to combat inferiority complex that reign supreme in the force, when it’s comes to standing tall among other security agencies in the country.”
He added that the welfare of the officers is very important after retirement, the force should look at the aspect seriously.
“On the medical aspect, what we have on ground Is not the best, but I believe the authority would work on it to make the officers look feet and get their medical needs.
“What Policemen get after their retirement should also be look into, the welfare of the police officers needs to be look into, so as to have a future and the medical facility should be made available and a good take home pay regularly so that they don’t die early, after retirement.
“Most of Officers that retired are still active they could still be engaged in the police and contribute positively to the Nigeria development, it’s left to the Nigeria people to decide the kind of force they need. I thank Almighty God, the inspector general police, my wife and my in-laws here present to honour me with their presence and everyone.”
The retired AIG also went memory lane on some of the achievements he recorded when he was commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom , Delta and with his late boss, Tafa Balogun and other officers who identified him and shoulder a lot of responsibility on him.
“I also want to appreciate the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun who had brought improvements and development to the police force and my thanks also goes to the men of the Zone 2 Command comprises Lagos and Ogun State.”
