This attack is reminiscent of a similar incident from a decade ago, when unknown arsonists had previously warned against the completion of the church’s construction.
The state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, condemned the attack as barbaric and unjustifiable. He stated, “Niger State upholds freedom of worship, and we expect that prompt action from the government and security agencies will help prevent further escalation. The perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice.”
Pastor Samson Ogbebor, an Assistant Pastor at the church, reported receiving an emergency call at around 3:00 a.m. about the fire. Upon arriving, he found the church, which had served the community for 20 years, completely destroyed and its property looted. He noted, “The church has faced numerous challenges, including a previous arson attack ten years ago. Despite multiple attempts to harm it and obstacles in roofing, we persevered. Now, we face this devastation once again.”
Church Elder Mr. John Aboje assured that the congregation remains committed to their faith and civic duties despite the attack. He called on Governor Umaru Bago, Emir of Kontagora Alh.
