Wike highlighted that August 1 is dedicated to a significant event where the chairmen of the six Area Councils in the FCT will distribute certificates of recognition to their traditional rulers.
“That day is designated for the entire area councils to celebrate and honour their traditional rulers. We will not permit any disruption of these celebrations by protests,” Wike asserted.
He emphasized that the day is meant for jubilation and recognition of traditional rulers’ contributions, and any protest activities would interfere with these plans. “We want people to come out and celebrate, as part of the achievements of the current administration. The FCT is not available for protests on this important day,” he reiterated.
Wike acknowledged the public’s right to protest but insisted that such activities must comply with legal regulations. “This period calls for collective effort to address our nation’s challenges. We are aware of the difficulties citizens are facing, and President Bola Tinubu, along with his team, is actively working to tackle these issues,” he noted.
The minister expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to resolve the current challenges and urged Nigerians to be patient. “In the FCT, we have already seen positive changes, thanks to the support from the President. There are significant developments underway, and we will not allow any disruptions to this progress,” he stated.
Wike concluded by underscoring the importance of maintaining peace and order in the FCT, stating, “We are focused on elevating the FCT to its rightful status as a leading city in Africa and the world. Therefore, any plans to protest on August 1 will not be entertained in the FCT.”
