The incident occurred at Achilafia along Daura-Kano Road when a vehicle, suspected of being smuggled into the country, struck Inspector Abdullahi-Elenwo as it attempted to evade arrest.
Isa Suleiman, the Zone B Public Relations Officer, detailed the events leading to the tragedy. “Inspector Abdullahi-Elenwo was rushed to General Hospital Kazaure and later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, where he was pronounced dead,”
Suleiman said.
The Customs Service has expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B is saddened to announce the tragic demise of Inspector of Customs Hamza Abdullahi-Elenwo,” Suleiman stated.
The deceased was laid to rest in Katsina according to Islamic rites. The Head of Federal Operations Unit Zone B, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, extended his condolences, highlighting the dangers faced by customs officers. “This incident underscores the desperation of smugglers who operate with a complete disregard for human life,” Shuaibu remarked.
One suspect has been arrested and is in custody with the Nigeria Police Force, Gwiwa Division in Jigawa State. Comptroller Shuaibu vowed to ensure justice is served.
Born on April 16, 1985, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Inspector Hamza Abdullahi-Elenwo joined the Nigeria Customs Service on October 17, 2013, and was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Customs in 2022. He is survived by his wife and two children…READ FULL ARTICLE
