Among dignitaries at the occasion included President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, governors of Ogun, Ondo, Lagos and Oyo states, members of the National Assembly led by the Senate President, Senator Goodswill Akpabio, serving and former ministers led by the minister of finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy, Mr Wale Edun, Chairman of Dangote groups, Alhaji Aliko Dangote among others.
Speaking at the book launch titled ‘My Life in the Public Eye’ to commemorate the 85th birthday celebration, President Tinubu described Aremo Olusegun Osoba as a prominent figure in the country who is passionate about the growth of the nation.
The president who was represented by the vice-president, Senator Kasim Shettima noted that the celebrant played a great impact in the lives of the people of Ogun State during his days as the governor of the state adding that the history of journalism in the country will be incomplete without mentioning his immense contributions to the profession
While thanking him for documenting his life experience, president Tinubu maintained that the book would serve as a reference point to future generations urging other leaders in the country to emulate Aremo Osoba by documenting their life history.
On the economy, President Tinubu implored Nigerians to continue supporting his administration in addressing the food challenges currently affecting the nation.
He explained that the government at the centre has introduced various programmes including import duty free on food importation to cushion the effects of the food shortage urging Nigerians to grow what they eat and eat what they grow.
In separate remarks the Senate President, Senator Goodswill Akpabio, the secretary to the government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume and the governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat described Aremo Olusegun Osoba as a leader whose life is characterised by transparency, integrity and love for nation.
They noted that the democratic government currently enjoying in the country came into existence through the efforts of Chief Osoba and other statesmen.
Also, the Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the former governor of the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba as an accomplished journalist, astute administrator and prolific politician who has contributed immensely to the development of the nation.
The governor noted that the celebrant started his journalistic career at the defunct Daily Times Newspaper where he later rose to the position of the Managing Director of the company
Mr governor pointed out that his contributions to the nation building have fetched him many traditional titles in appreciation of his contributions to human life.
Prince Abiodun noted that the rural areas in the state experienced a lot of development during his tenure which according to him has helped to reduce rural migration
He added that the former governor laid the foundation for the social economic programme currently enjoying by the people of the state.
