States failing to submit their state police reports on time face the prospect of the National Economic Council enforcing its judgment.
As recommended by state governors, President Bola Tinubu has earlier supported the creation of state police to combat the nation’s growing level of insecurity.
The NEC has now given these states until Monday to submit their reports, failing which they would be subject to the council’s ruling. The concerned states are Adamawa, Kwara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and the Federal Capital.
These states were told to send in their reports so that the NEC may consider and act upon them. But acting governor of Oyo State Bayo Lawal said that four states had not yet turned in their reports, following a Wednesday NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
