Niger state police command said it has arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects and recovered cars and guns used by the gang to carryout their nefarious activities in the state....READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE ▶▶
The command has also destroyed the weapons of mass destruction planted by suspected Boko-Haram, ISWAP and armed bandits in parts of Niger state particularly in Shiroro Local Government Area.
The items recovered in Shiroro Local Government Area alone included; four pipe-borne IEDs buried in the ground recovered at Galadima-Kogo on the 27th September, 2021, Explosives concealed in empty shells of suspected military missiles and 5kg cooking gas cylinder recovered at Mutun-daya on the 11th February, 2022.
Other explosives destroyed by the command concealed in a ten-litre jerrican, three pieces of suspected military hand grenades and a bow-shaped improvised material at Gbeganu area of Minna on the 24th October, 2023, press statement signed by SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, the Command’s PRO, for the Commissioner of Police Niger State Command said.
Successful destruction took place on 22nd August, 2024 at a location behind Zuma rock, Suleja led by the Officer in Charge of the EOD-CBRN (Explosive Ordinance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) Unit of the Command, SP Mohammed Mamun.
Also, Police operatives attached to the Intelligence Department of the Command recovered an abandoned AK-49 rifle in Kaffin-koro in a forest between Gwajau and Sikiti villages in Paikoro Local Government Area.
The rifle is suspected to have been abandoned by suspected armed bandits during one of the joint clearance operations within the area, adding however that the recovered rifle is under investigation as the items are undergoing forensic/ballistic analysis in the Intelligence Department of the command.
The statement also disclosed how the Lapai Division recovered one Mercedes C230 Ash- Silver in colour with Reg. No. KWL 644 DP said to have been stolen from where it was parked in a compound at the Low-cost area, and was later abandoned by the robbers at Kudna village along the Lapai-Lambata road.
Other suspects arrested for various crimes on the 23rd Aug, 2024 at Zuba near Abuja are; Abdulaziz Hassan aged 22, of Gwarinpa area, Abuja and 23 years old Hussaini Ibrahim of Rafin-seyin area of, Suleja.
Items recovered from them are; two iPhones, four android phones and a laptop with WiFi stolen during the robbery from the same compound.
The suspects has confessed to the crime, adding that investigations is ongoing while efforts are also being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
