Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers killed a woman in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.The incident which has caused panic among residents of the area occurred along NTA Road, Ado Ekiti around 7 am on Saturday, July 6, 2024.The woman, whose identity is not yet ascertained, was shot dead by the gunmen operating on a motorcycle.

“The gunmen who were riding on a motorcycle made an attempt to forcefully dispossess the woman of her bag while standing by the road,” a source told journalists.

“The woman was said to have resisted the attempt and refused to surrender her bag and other valuables to them.

“She was shot by her assailants who fled the scene immediately.”

People around scampered to safety while business owners and traders hurriedly closed their shops.

The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident said the killing was more of a robbery.

He disclosed that the sum of forty thousand, two hundred and eighty naira (N40,280) was found in the bag of the deceased woman.

Abutu said her body has been deposited in the morgue and the police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

The former Minister also stated that even his friends and many other people were begging for money after seeing the fake report.

He said,“The menace of fake news is a menace that must be tackled by all of us; this is something that nearly cost me my marriage of about 40 years.

“While we were in government, there was fake news that I had $1.9bn in my bank account and unfortunately, many people believed this falsehood, including my wife.

During the interview, the former chief whip of the senate alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is populated by kleptocrats.

Following his comments, Ndume was removed as chief whip of the senate by the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party also asked the lawmaker to resign as its member.

Speaking during an interview in Abuja on Friday, Ndume said he said nothing wrong, noting that his removal as the chief whip of the senate was an “act of God”.

Thereafter, Senate President Godswill Akpabio removed the lawmaker as the vice-chairman of the appropriation panel and appointed him to head the senate committee on tourism.

Speaking on the incident for the first time, Ndume said he reviewed his interview and also got feedback from friends and elders but was told that he did not say anything that is not true.

“I have reviewed the interview I granted. I also shared with friends, leaders, elders in this country to review and get back to me to tell me if I have said anything that is not true or that is wrong in that interview,” he said.

“I learnt that I have been appointed chairman of tourism. I want to state here that I beg to decline for two reasons,” he said.
