BREAKING: Governors have legitimacy to negotiate Nnamdi Kanu release – Ohanaeze carpets Ekpa

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has urged South-East governors and other political leaders in the zone to ignore Simon Ekpa’s opposition to their planned negotiation for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

It could be recalled that Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Government in Exile had in a statement a few days back said the governors lacked the legitimacy to negotiate for Kanu’s freedom.

However, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike appealed to the governors to go ahead without hesitation and approach the Federal Government for Kanu’s release.

Okwu, who said the governors remained the leaders of the zone, wondered how someone in far away Finland would accuse them of lacking legitimacy.

“It is curious to hear Simon Ekpa say the governors lack legitimacy. These are elected leaders of the people. If they lack legitimacy, is it self-serving Ekpa that is in far away Finland that has legitimacy?

“One is forced to ask- what really does Simon Ekpa want? Why is always against any move to get Mazi Nnamdi Kanu off the hook?

“The answer is simple- he is benefiting from the prolonged detention of the IPOB leader and time has come for everyone in Igbo land to understand that Simon Ekpa does not in any way work for the interest of the people, rather he is doing business with Biafra agitation.”

The Ohanaeze youths urged the governors to go ahead and initiate every step that would ensure that Kanu is released in the shortest time possible.

“They should not in any way be distracted by Ekpa’s antics. We call on the governors and all the NASS members from the South-East to rally round and hold a purposeful discussion with the Federal Government.

“We have no doubt that the current administration will heed to their request,” Okwu further stated….READ FULL ARTICLE

Former Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, has rejected his new appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, recently assigned to him by Senate President Godswill Akpabio….READ FULL ARTICLE

Akpabio offered Ndume this new position after he was removed from his role as chief whip of the 10th Senate.

This decision followed a request from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), driven by Ndume’s recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to reporters in Maiduguri on Friday, the capital of Borno State, Ndume defended his actions and expressed no regrets regarding his removal.

“I was not desperate about the position of Vice Chairman of the Appropriation Committee. I was urged to accept the Chief Whip role, considering my support for Akpabio’s emergence as Senate President. I chose the Vice Chairman of the Appropriation Committee willingly. I am not desperate,” Ndume stated.

Regarding his new appointment, Ndume said, “I learned that I was appointed Chairman of the Tourism Committee, but no official communication was made. I decline this offer for two reasons: I am not a tourist, and I lack expertise in tourism.”

Ndume called on President Bola Tinubu to address the issues he raised, highlighting the public’s dissatisfaction.

“It is unpatriotic to support the President blindly. True patriotism involves speaking the truth, not just to the President but to anyone in power. In Hausa, we say, ‘Allah ya na tare da mai gaskiya,’ meaning God is always on the side of truthful people,” he emphasized.

He added, “I believe I am right, and the people are right by standing up for the truth. I expect the President to review my concerns and take steps to alleviate the suffering of the masses. People are unhappy and suffering. Leaders need to re-evaluate their actions. It was God who gave me my position, and it was God who took it away. I bear no grudge. After all, I didn’t campaign for these roles; I campaigned to be a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Alhamdulillah, God granted me victory, and I stand with God.”…READ FULL ARTICLE

He emphasized that the constitution allows individuals to support any candidate or political party they choose. He said, “As of now, I’m a PDP man and I will not support anybody while I am in another party contrary to who I am supporting. For now, I am a member of PDP but going forward, I am good as being a member of APC; I can tell you that.

“The only thing that is keeping me in PDP is that I have not officially declared. Talking more seriously, I am actually a member of APC, but on official. My spirit has left PDP for a long time, it is only my leg and body that are still there because my PDP party card is still with me and I have not picked an APC party card yet. But in terms of spirit, my spirit has left PDP and is now in APC.”
