3 Players Who Rejected A Move To Chelsea In The 2024/2025 Transfer Window

Here are three players who opted for another club after they rejected a possible move to Chelsea in the June 2024 summer transfer window.

Chelsea FC have been busy in the June 2024 summer transfer window so far and it is of no surprise that the Blues have been linked to different players in the market in their bid to build a stronger squad under new head coach Enzo Maresca ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

Although the Blues have managed to complete the signing of some of their key targets, other players have however rejected Chelsea for other clubs due to different reasons.

Who are the players who rejected a transfer to Chelsea?

Here are the players who rejected the bid from Chelsea for another club:

Michael Olise

Following months of speculations and the launch of new bids, Michael Olise opted for a move to Bayern Munich as opposed to Chelsea. Reports confirmed that Chelsea had issues negotiating wages that would suit their current structure after Olise had reportedly requested for a 200 thousand plus pounds weekly.

It however came as a shock to many that the France star player opted for a move to Bayern Munich instead of renegotiating with Chelsea. The Athletic also indicated that the 22-year-old had favoured a move to join Bayern Munich, with the German club among those who reached out regarding a potential transfer. His official transfer to Bayern Munich was confirmed in an official statement by the club on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – AUGUST 25: Benjamin Sesko of FC Red Bull Salzburg celebrates after he scores his team’s opening goal during the UEFA Champions League Play-Offs Leg Two match between Brondby IF and FC Red Bull Salzburg at on August 25, 2021 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Arguably one of the most sought after attackers in the June 2024 transfer window, Benjamin Sesko rejected a move to Chelsea or Arsenal but rather opted to extend his contract with his club side RB Leipzig for a few more years. A contract extension with RB Leipzig would mean an increase from his initial buyout clause fee of 55 million pounds.

Sky Sports made this confirmation in their latest news report that read, “Benjamin Sesko was linked to a host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United; the RB Leipzig forward will be staying at his current club next season, with the German side set to hand the 21-year-old with a new contract.”

Riccardo Calafiori

Chelsea had also considered a move for Riccardo Calafiori in a bid to boost the defense capabilities of the club following the absence of Thiago Silva. The Italian however has opted for a move to Arsenal after reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Mikel Arteta led side.

Talks between clubs have started. No issues on Calafiori’s contract terms, up to the clubs now. Arsenal currently ahead, no bid from Chelsea so far.”

Following captain Waldemar Anton, striker Serhou Guirassy is also moving from VfB Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund within the Bundesliga. The transfer is complete after days of uncertainty, with the Guinean national striker signing a contract with BVB until June 30, 2028. Guirassy is moving thanks to an exit clause worth a reported 18 million euros.

“I had the best two years of my career here,” said the 28-year-old in a statement from VfB. On social media, he thanked the Stuttgart fans for their support and described the decision to leave the club as “probably the hardest” of his career so far.

A failed medical check last week had delayed BVB’s agreement with Guirassy. A further examination showed that the attacker’s injured knee does not require surgery. According to the doctors’ assessments, he will probably be fit to play this summer after an individual rehabilitation program, Borussia announced.

FC Bayern are apparently serious about their efforts to sign Xavi Simons. According to information from the French sports newspaper “L’Equipe”, the Munich team have made an offer for the Paris St. Germain attacker. The Dutch international was loaned to RB Leipzig last season.

According to “L’Equipe”, Bayern are prepared to agree to a loan deal until the summer of 2025, with an obligation to buy afterward. The transfer fee is said to be 90 million euros. The most expensive transfer in Bayern’s club history is Harry Kane, whose signing cost 95 million euros.

Xavi’s contract in Paris runs until 2027, and he told PSG officials before the European Championship that he did not want to return to Paris. “Xavi Simons played a very good European Championship and had a great Bundesliga season with Leipzig last year,” said Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund. “He will have a really good career at the highest level. He has everything, including mentality and character. But there is nothing more to say.”

According to media reports, Bayer Leverkusen is about to sign Martin Terrier. The attacker, who is contractually bound to French first division club Stade Rennes until 2026, is said to be moving to the German champions for around 20 million euros and is already in Leverkusen for a medical check.

The 27-year-old Frenchman, who has played for Lille, Strasbourg, Lyon and Rennes, has scored 60 goals in just over 200 first division matches and is considered to be a strong dribbler and finisher. He can be used on the left offensive side, as a hanging striker or in central attack. Terrier would be the second professional to move from Rennes to the factory club this summer after defensive all-rounder Jeanuel Belocian. Another new signing is midfielder Aleix Garcia from Spanish club FC Girona.

Joachim Löw has been out of a job for some time now. Now the vacant position of England national coach is said to have aroused the interest of the 64-year-old. However, there is a reservation from the English side when it comes to applying.

According to “Kicker”, the exit clause of national player Chris Führich at VfB Stuttgart has expired. Accordingly, the winger can no longer be bought out of his contract, which is valid until 2028, for the transfer fee of around 22 million euros. Should a club want to sign the European Championship participant, the transfer fee would now be freely negotiable again.

In addition to FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, clubs from abroad are also said to have been interested in Führich. However, the rumours about the 26-year-old have not been made concrete. Stuttgart’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth now expects the offensive player to stay.

Chris Führich was part of the German European Championship squad

After a strong previous season, which ultimately led to the team finishing runner-up, VfB has already lost captain Waldemar Anton and defender Hiroki Ito due to exit clauses. Goalscorer Serhou Guirassy is close to moving to Dortmund – also due to a clause.

Hansi Flick will now be supported by Thiago Alcántara at FC Barcelona. The former FC Bayern professional will be part of Flick’s coaching team in the coming weeks, the Catalans announced. The 33-year-old will spend the entire summer with the team and will also travel with them on a preparation tour to the USA. Flick and Thiago had already worked together at FC Bayern. The former midfielder recently ended his playing career.

The turnaround in the personnel affair comes as quite a surprise: Jadon Sancho has been rehabilitated at Manchester United. Coach Erik ten Hag has officially announced that the disputes between him and the 24-year-old star are a thing of the past.

The highly talented attacker is to be given a second chance at the club to establish himself in the long term. Sancho had already taken part in ManU’s team training last Friday. “We have drawn a line under it,” the Dutchman told the “Manchester Evening News” regarding the often differing views between him and Sancho.

In recent months, the gap between coach and professional was seen as unbridgeable – which is why the Red Devils loaned Sancho to Borussia Dortmund in the winter. But now there has been a turnaround, because “Manchester United needs good players and Jadon is a good player,” as the Dutchman explained. This means that BVB, who had at least had little hope of convincing Sancho to sign him again, will almost certainly come away empty-handed.

Defender Bright Arrey-Mbi is leaving the Lower Saxony second division club Hannover 96. As the club announced, the 21-year-old is joining the Portuguese first division club SC Braga. The transfer terms for the German U21 international have been kept confidential. According to media reports, Hannover will receive around six million euros.

Arrey-Mbi initially moved to Hannover on loan from FC Bayern in 2022. He was then signed permanently last summer. In his two seasons for 96, he played 49 competitive games. “He has steadily developed at Hannover 96 and significantly consolidated his performances. It was clear that sooner or later he would attract the interest of other clubs,” said Hannover’s sporting director Marcus Mann.

Following the resignation of Gareth Southgate, star coach Pep Guardiola is also being discussed as a possible national coach of England. According to a report in the “Independent”, the association would even consider waiting a year for the head coach of Manchester City in such a case. Guardiola still has a contract with the English champions until summer 2025 and could be free after that.

“The Football Association is considering the idea of appointing an interim coach to bring in Pep Guardiola next year,” the newspaper wrote. Although this is not the first option, it could become a realistic solution given the class and CV of the 53-year-old Catalan. The next major event for the Three Lions is the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The favourite to succeed Southgate, who announced his departure after almost eight years following the 1-2 defeat in the European Championship final against Spain, is Eddie Howe, who is currently employed at Newcastle United. The names Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have also been mentioned.

Kaishu Sano is scheduled to complete his first training session with 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday. But that is unlikely to happen. The Japanese football professional is currently in custody. His new club is looking for information.

TSV 1860 Munich has signed goalkeeper René Vollath from SpVgg Unterhaching. The 34-year-old will start training immediately, the third division club announced. The “Lions” say they are completing their goalkeeping team for the coming season with the experienced Vollath.

The goalkeeper comes to 1860 with the experience of 243 games in the third division and 38 second division appearances for Karlsruher SC. “I am ready to fully commit myself to TSV 1860 Munich,” said Vollath. He will also be involved in the goalkeeper training of the 1860 junior team.

Danish striker Emil Højlund is moving to FC Schalke 04. The 19-year-old brother of Manchester United striker and national player Rasmus Højlund is coming to the Gelsenkirchen team from FC Copenhagen. He will receive a contract until June 30, 2028, as the second division club from the Ruhr region announced.

Emil Højlund comes from a real football family: not only is his older brother Rasmus a professional, his twin brother Oscar Højlund will play for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt next season. “He is a striker who plays well and can also hold onto the ball. Despite his young age, he has very good physical qualities,” Schalke’s sporting director Marc Wilmots is quoted as saying in a club statement about the new signing….READ FULL ARTICLE
