Bill To Create Additional State In The Southeast Passes First Reading In The House Of Reps


A Bill that seeks to create an additional State in the South-East geo-political zone has allegedly passed the first reading at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, the House of Representatives.

According to Daily Post, the additional South-Eastern State will be known as “Orlu State, with its capital also Orlu, if it is created.

The report noted that the Bill which is currently waiting for the second reading seeks to alter the 1999 Constitution was sponsored by the member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, Ikenga Ikegwuonu Ugochinyere, and 15 others.

The others were said to be New Ideato North Nwabosi West, Nwabosi East, Iwerre Nworni Alaoma, Amaifeke and Owerrebiri Umuowa.

In continuation, the report also has it that the sponsor of the Bill made it known to newsmen that if the proposed State is created, Ideato would be made a Senatorial District.

The Lawmaker also allegedly pleaded with his colleagues in the legislature to support him in order to ensure that the Bill survives the second reading………See More
