An activist for human rights and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Mike Ozekhome, has reportedly expressed his satisfaction with Nigeria’s decision to return to its previous national song, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” describing it as a move that has been long overdue. This information was reported by the Daily Post.

Over the course of a press conference that took place on Wednesday, Ozekhome expressed his happiness and mentioned that he had been an advocate for this move during the National Conference that took place in 2014.

“Bringing the old National Anthem back is well overdue. It has better lyrics in content and context, like the Senate President said. It is better than the other one,” Ozekhome stated.

Not only did Ozekhome advocate for the modification of the national song, but he also urged that Nigeria look into the possibility of altering both its name and its flag.

“The name Nigeria and the flag should also be changed,” Ozekhome added.

Furthermore, he believed that such modifications would more accurately reflect the identity and ambitions of the nation.
