Having traveled to Bouake for the semi-final clash between Nigeria and South Africa, the Abidjan-based billionaire was reported to have collapsed during the tension-soaked encounter.

William Troost-Ekong had put theahead from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, but Teboho Mokoena drew his side level in a similar fashion in the 90th minute forcing the game into extra-time.

Still, both teams were inseparable after another 30 minutes of intense battle and the fixture was decided via a penalty shootout, with Nigeria winning 4-2,reports.

Nigerians were left in shock following news that Osondu Nwoye passed away inside the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.

About two months after the tragic incident, his remains has been buried in his home town of Amanuke in Anambra state.

Among dignitaries at the ceremony were Peter Obi and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Valentine Ozigbo. Obi hailed the late football enthusiast for his positive impact in the Amanuke Community.
