The operation unfolded along Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, where troops from the 192 Battalion executed a meticulously planned stop and search operation.

Their efforts paid off when they apprehended a truck bearing the license plate number ENU 697 XY.

To the astonishment of the soldiers, the vehicle was found to be loaded with an enormous cache of weaponry.

Inside the truck were 720 cartons of Red Star cartridges, each containing 25 cartridges, amounting to a staggering total of 18,000 cartridges.

Additionally, 250 packets of live cartridges of pellet black, totaling 2,500 cartridges, were discovered, all of the same caliber.

The perpetrators behind this audacious smuggling attempt were swiftly apprehended at the scene. Among them was Mr. Eric Seworvor, a Ghanaian citizen, who was identified as a key figure in the syndicate. The driver of the truck was also arrested.

Further investigations into the matter have revealed that the smuggled ammunition had been carefully concealed within the empty truck and transported all the way from Mali, crossing the Idiroko International Border.

According to the arrested suspects, their ultimate destination was Onitsha, located in Anambra State. The dangerous cargo was intended for a yet-to-be-identified recipient in the area.
