Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi responded to a question regarding his willingness to lead negotiations with herdsmen if approached by President Bola Tinubu. During an interview with Trust TV, Sheikh Gumi clarified that while he doesn’t necessarily have to take on a leadership role, he would gladly volunteer to be part of any government-approved group tasked with handling these talks. Additionally, he expressed his intention to recommend other scholars to join the effort in order to facilitate the restoration of peace in affected areas.

He said, “I don’t have to lead it but I would volunteer myself to be part of it. There is nothing like leading; it is just like a holistic package that will look into it. We need Emirs to come in, we need scholars to come in, we need university professors because there are so many that have made research on these issues and we all need to come together. I think we can all sit down together so that we have peace and people can go back to their farms.”

According to Sheikh Gumi, the emphasis should be on forming a holistic package that addresses the issue at hand, rather than solely focusing on leadership. He stressed the importance of involving various stakeholders, including Emirs, scholars, and university professors, who have extensively researched these matters. By bringing together a diverse range of expertise, Sheikh Gumi believes that a comprehensive approach can be established, leading to peaceful resolutions and enabling people to resume their agricultural activities.

Sheikh Gumi’s willingness to participate in negotiations demonstrates his commitment to finding solutions to the challenges posed by the herdsmen issue. By advocating for a collective effort, he aims to leverage the knowledge and insights of different experts in order to achieve long-lasting peace. Rather than seeking personal recognition, Sheikh Gumi places importance on collaborating with other influential figures and academics to develop a cohesive strategy.Continue Reading
